2010 Winter Games Venues in Whistler
Whistler's 2010 Winter Games venues are one of many lasting legacies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. These include
- Whistler Olympic Park
- Whistler Sliding Centre
- Whistler Olympic Plaza
- Whistler Athletes’ Village
- Whistler Creekside
Whistler's venues were completed more than a year before the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, which gave Canadian athletes the opportunity to train and compete in Whistler well in advance of the Games. Nine sport events before 2010 brought international athletes to Whistler.
Whistler Sport Legacies now operates Whistler's venues, excluding Whistler Creekside and the Athletes’ Village. All of Whistler's venues will aid the community in becoming a centre of excellence for the development of sport and international-level competition.
Did you know?
The Whistler Athletes’ Centre in the heart of the Whistler Athletes’ Village, now the Cheakamus Crossing neighbourhood, serves as a training facility for high performance athletes. The 18,000-sqaure-foot facility includes a gymnasium, weight-training area, change rooms, offices and a classroom.
As a legacy for athletic development, the Athletes’ Centre is now used for everything from elite athlete training to a public fitness facility, including use by the community gymnastics club.
The municipality contributed $3.65 million to the gymnastics facility and landscaping for this project, to contribute to the community legacy.
