July 6, 2010… In May 2010, the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) entered into an agreement with Alpine Paving, which will see the asphalt plant move to a relocation site 150 metres from its current location. Alpine Paving will invest approximately $1 million to upgrade the new asphalt plant with equipment, including a baghouse, to decrease emissions from the new plant and protect air quality in the Cheakamus Crossing neighbourhood.

RMOW to Provide Free Transit Service in Whistler on June 28
June 21, 2010... On June 28, 2010, user pay parking will begin in Day Lots 1, 2, and 3 on Blackcomb Way. Parking in Lots 4 and 5 will remain free of charge.

Moving toward a user-pay system is recommended in Whistler’s Comprehensive Transportation Strategy; aligns with priorities outlined in Whistler2020, Whistler’s comprehensive sustainability plan and vision; and supports recommendations in Whistler’s 2009 Long-Term Financial Plan. User pay parking is equitable and efficient and places the cost of parking on users, rather than tax payers.

June 8, 2010... An expert in the field of ‘place-based’ cultural tourism has just been hired to work with Whistler’s arts, culture and heritage sector to guide the creation of Whistler’s Cultural Tourism Development Plan (CTDP). Steven Thorne, from Waterloo, Ontario, will be in Whistler for ten days in mid-June to inventory and assess Whistler’s cultural tourism experiences.  He will also give a presentation entitled, “Cultural Tourism: A Place-Based Approach,” on Tuesday, June 22 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the MY Place theatre – all are welcome.
