The municipal roads department is responsible for clearing snow from all municipal routes -- approximately 100 kilometres (60 miles) of road surface. Primary routes, including transit and school bus routes, main accesses to the highway, the village and ski lift bases, steep hills and village parking lots, are cleared first, starting at 4:30 a.m. Secondary routes are cleared from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. During a storm cycle, crews work around the clock.

Maintenance of private roads, such as those through condominium complexes, is arranged through strata councils.

The highway is the responsibility of the Ministry of Transportation and is cleared by Mainroad Howe Sound Contracting.

Be sure to follow winter parking regulations to help our roads crew keep the way clear. Winter parking regulations are in effect November 1 through March 31 every year. To make it easier for snowplows to get through subdivisions, parking on the even side of the street is prohibited Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no parking on the odd side of the street at any time, year round.

During the summer, the roads crews conduct an annual pavement renewal program.
