Re Use It Centre
The Re Use It Centre accepts donations of quality used household goods. Sales from these items represent the primary funding source for WCSS programs and services (75%). By shopping and donating to the Re Use It Centre, you are directly supporting social sustainability in Whistler and contributing to a more resilient community.
The Re Use It Center is Whistler's hub for E-Waste and Small Electronic recycling.
Whistler's favourite thrift store opened its doors in 2000 with little fanfare. Since then, it has become a model of social entrepreneurship much envied by other non-profits both locally and internationally. There is an underlying sustainability story that represents several wins for the community. As part of the community's Official Community Plan, and zero waste goals, the Re Use It Centre represents three very important and interrelated task force goals of Materials and Solid Waste, Affordability and Health and Social strategies.
In 2008, the Re Use It Centre kept 430 metric tons of material out of the landfill. The Re Use It Centre has the community’s only e-waste transfer station (www.encorp.ca) which saved 45 metric tons of material from the landfill. Keeping this material out of the landfill helps us towards our zero waste goals.
Items are priced fairly providing an affordable shopping experience. Revenue from sales meets many Health and Social goals in our community as we are able to offer social sustainability programs. Used items that are clean, and in good shape and working order are gratefully accepted during store hours. Larger items such as furniture or equipment must be taken to the Re Build It Centre as there is limited Re Use It Centre Space to accept the donation.
Hours: Open 7 days/week 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
