The Whistler Film Festival's popular monthly screening series Reel Alternatives returns this fall bringing three of the year's top independent films to the big screen in Whistler from October to December.

Join film enthusiasts to experience independent films from around the world that otherwise will not be presented in Whistler. To ensure the best selection, films are programmed and announced one month in advance of the screening date. Each film is an exclusive presentation, receiving its Whistler premiere.

Reel Alternatives is supported by the Film Circuit, an initiative of the Toronto International Film Festival Group, that promotes and facilitates screenings of Canadian and international independent films in 134 communities across Canada and abroadThe new festival favourite from master Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, The Skin I Live In, stars Antonio Banderas as Dr. Robert Ledgard. Ever since his wife was burned in a car crash, Dr. Ledgard, an eminent plastic surgeon, has been interested in creating a new skin with which he could have saved her. After twelve years, he manages to cultivate a skin that is a real shield against every assault. In addition to years of study and experimentation, Dr. Ledgard needed three more things: no scruples, an accomplice and a human guinea pig. Scruples were never a problem. Marilia, the woman who looked after him from the day he was born, is his most faithful accomplice and as for the human guinea pig….
