You don't need a car in pedestrian-oriented Whistler. But if you drive to Whistler, here are some guidelines:
The Resort Municipality of Whistler manages on-street user pay parking in the Village and user pay parking in the following lots:
- Municipal Hall
- Whistler Public Library
- Whistler Conference Centre (underground and above-ground)
- Day Lots 1, 2, and 3 (beginning June 28, 2010)
See rates and locations here.
Municipal meters and lots are patrolled from 10
a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days per week.
Day Lots
The Day Lots 1 through 5 are owned by the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) and were transferred from the Province in 2008. The RMOW is responsible for parking equipment and operation (including revenue collection) and bylaw enforcement. Whistler Blackcomb operates the Day Lots and is responsbile for day-to-day management, including snow-clearing and traffic management.
Upgrades to the Day Lots in 2009 included paving of Lots 1 to 4, construction of stairs, lighting, and stormwater management improvements.
Overnight Parking
Overnight parking or camping is NOT permitted in the Day Lots in the Village, with the following exceptions:
- Overheight vehicles may park in Lot 5
- Trekkers on multi-day hikes in Garibaldi Park (Singing Pass) may park overnight in Lot 5. No sticker or pass is required.
If you are parked overnight, you may be ticketed and towed.
Hotel and other private parking
Most hotels offer pay parking for registered guests and visitors.
A number of private underground parking lots are located around the Village and offer daily and monthly rates.
Marketplace Parking Lot
This is a privately owned lot and not governed by the municipality. Please be aware of the regulations, which are posted prominently in the lot. The two-hour time limit is strictly enforced in this parking lot. Visitors staying in accommodation at Marketplace should ensure they have made the appropriate parking arrangements.
Whistler Subdivisions
Parking is not permitted on the odd side of the street at any time, year-round, in subdivisions.
Winter parking regulations are in effect November 1 through March 31. To make it easier for snowplows to get through subdivisions, parking on the even side of the street is prohibited Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Illegally parked vehicles will be ticketed and towed.
Please note, the municipality does not govern or maintain strata parking lots and driveways. Obey the signs.
