Recognizing that comfortable, affordable housing is vital to the sustainability of the Whistler community, the Resort Municipality of Whistler is committed to providing a variety of resident housing options for local employees. Thanks to the community's ongoing commitment to resident housing, 75 percent of the local workforce continues to live within municipal boundaries. Looking ahead, the Whistler 2020 document describes a vision for resident housing in Whistler and highlights a range of existing and proposed actions to achieve this vision.

Whistler's resident housing program provides affordable alternatives to market housing for full time, permanent and seasonal employees, seniors and families. Both rental and ownership units in a mix of sizes and locations are available through this program and are restricted exclusively to Whistler residents. The Whistler2020 Monitoring Program uses indicators to track and report the community’s status and progress according to stated priorities, including resident housing.
