Corporate and Community Services
Corporate and Community Services provides services to the community that help enhance the experience of Whistler’s residents. Its employees are dedicated to providing a high level of service and satisfaction. Our objective, as stated in Whistler 2020 is to ensure that:
In the year 2020, the community is attractive and livable with a strong social fabric, as the majority of the local workforce and many long-time members of the community make Whistler their home. Residents are able to access and enjoy Whistler’s wide range of activities and amenities, the very reason they were drawn here. They mix with visitors in the village and on the mountain, sharing in the resort vibrancy and cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Corporate and Community Services includes the following: information technology, legislative services, bylaw enforcement, RCMP, Fire Rescue Services, recreation facilities and programs and library services.
The role of each of these services is outlined below.
Information Technology
Information Technology manages all of the IT infrastructure of the RMOW, including the Public Works Yard, Public Safety building, Spruce Grove, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Whistler 2020 Development Corporation, the Whistler Public Library, MY Millennium Place offices and three community centres. Legislative Services
Legislative Services is responsible for preparing agendas and packages for both open and in camera council meetings as well taking minutes of these meetings. The department is also responsible for publishing statutory notices and overseeing all Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) bylaws, policies and procedures.
The corporate officer who is in charge of the Legislative Services department is the “expert” on protocol and procedure and advises staff and elected officials as required. The corporate officer also acts as the chief election officer, the head of freedom of information and protection of privacy and acts as a commissioner for taking affidavits.
Legislative Services also oversees records management, the administration of the Whistler Cemetery and the board of variance as well as liability insurance, municipal corporations the community enrichment program, reception (including issuing marriage licenses), overall office management of Municipal Hall and the execution of municipal conferences.

Bylaw Enforcement
Bylaw Enforcement works with residents and visitors to assist in the compliance of local bylaws. Bylaw Enforcement is available as a resource to public often in the areas of business licensing – facilitating the applications and renewals, animal control – promoting responsible dog ownership and parking – residential, commercial and user pay.
In addition to responding to complaints on all bylaw matters, officers regularly conduct patrols of the village, subdivisions and parks to ensure a positive experience for all. Bylaw Enforcement is most often called to enforce unsightly premises, dogs off leash, land use, noise, bicycles and skateboards in the village, and signs. It is also involved in drafting and development of amendments to bylaws and new bylaws.
Whistler Fire Rescue Service
Whistler Fire Rescue Service provides a full range of fire preventions and suppression services as well as a rescue service. It is staffed by a combination full time and paid on-call professional firefighters. The department operates out of three fire halls.

The Whistler Public Library
The Whistler Public Library a gateway to knowledge, supporting lifelong learning, community engagement, and a culture of sustainability. The library provides a full range of traditional and digital information services for Whistler residents and visitors. The staff works closely with educational and cultural organizations in the community, providing outreach to schools and hosting a wide variety of programs for all ages. While it is a department within the RMOW, the library is governed by an independent Board of Trustees, appointed by RMOW Council as required in the BC Library Act. The library facility is a multiple award-winning LEED Gold building, completed in 2008.

Recreation Facilities
Recreation Facilities s responsible for the operations and maintenance of the Meadow Park Sports Centre. The Centre consists of a 25 metre pool, a wading pool, a regulation ice surface, fitness room, multi-purpose room, change rooms with showers, and adjacent recreation grounds. In addition to standard mechanical equipment associated with this type of facility, the department also manages and maintains a hot water solar array and a geothermal system.

Recreation Programs
Recreation Programs provides a wide range delivery of recreation services (programs, facility rentals, drop in sport/activities, community events) in a variety of facilities including a sports centre (arena, pool, fitness centre, fitness studio and squash courts), three community centres, youth centre, and two community halls, as well as operating a cross-country ski area and associated passively heated/cooled day lodge in Lost Lake Park.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)
The Whistler detachment of the RCMP provides law enforcement and crime prevention services to the community and its visitors. In conducting its mandate, it abides by its motto is to “Maintain the Right” (Defend the Law). It also has access to the full range of RCMP services from the lower mainland including but not limited to homicide investigation, dog handlers, emergency response, and forensic laboratory services.
