Garbage Collection
Residential garbage pick-up is not provided by the municipality in Whistler, because open garbage causes significant problems for wildlife in our community.
Residents can drop off garbage and recycling at two garbage, recycling, and composting depots:
- Function Junction (south end of Whistler)
- 8001 Nester's Road (north end of Whistler)
The depots are managed by on behalf of the municipality. The following items are not accepted at the compactor sites and must be taken to the waste transfer station:
- Appliances
- Construction waste
- Drywall
- Yard waste and brush
- Large items, including furniture
- Commercial waste
- Paint and household hazardous items
Do not leave items outside the bins. Fines of up to $2,000 are enforced for illegal dumping as per RMOW Bylaw 1445,1999, a bylaw to provide for the control and disposal of garbage. Please report incidents of illegal dumping to the RMOW at 604-932-5535.

Garbage and recycling must be stored indoors or in an approved wildlife resistant container or wildlife resistant storage area at all times. Design guidelines for strata units for wildlife resistant garbage storage are available from the municipality or can be downloaded here.
To limit human-bear conflict, a Garbage Disposal and Wildlife Attractants Bylaw has been adopted by Whistler Council. This bylaw provides new definitions for wildlife attractants and imposes fines for improper storage, disposal, or dumping of garbage.
Commercial businesses and accommodations must hire a private contractor to provide garbage, recycling, and composting collection services. Download updated commercial and strata recycling, composting, and waste information.
