Roads

The safety of road users is a priority in Whistler – particularly the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, who are the most vulnerable road users. Click here to read more about Whistler’s Traffic Calming Policy here. Click here to read more about the Walk Safe Program.

Maintenance

The Municipal Roads Department is responsible for road maintenance and snowclearing in Whistler.

Maintenance of private roads, such as those through condominium complexes, is arranged through private strata councils.

Highway 99

Highway 99 is the responsibility of the Ministry of Transportation and is cleared by Mainroad Howe Sound Contracting.

Please call 1-866-904-0209 for the Mainroad Howe Sound Road Report or check Highway 99 Road Conditions online.

Snowclearing

The Municipal Roads Department clears snow from all municipal routes — approximately 100 kilometres of road surface.

  • Primary routes – transit and school bus routes, subdivisions, main accesses to the highway, the village, and village parking lots, are cleared first, starting at 4:30 a.m.
  • Secondary routes are cleared from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • During winter crews work around the clock.

Contact roads@whistler.ca for more information. Telephone 604-935-8300.

Winter Parking Regulations

Winter parking regulations are in effect November 1 through March 31 every year.

To make it easier for snowplows to get through subdivisions, parking on the even side of the street is prohibited Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no parking on the odd side of the street at any time, year round.

Annual Road Reconstruction Program

During the summer, the roads crews conduct an annual raods reconstruction program.
