Walking
The simplest and easiest way to actively commute is to walk, and the Whistler Valley Trail is a great place to start.

The Valley Trail, is one of Whistler’s most popular attractions. This paved, 35-kilometre long, three-metre wide, multi-use trail with easy grades will soon extend from Cheakamus Crossing in the south to Emerald Estates in the north connecting Whistler’s neighbourhoods and schools to Whistler Village, Creekside, and the community’s many destination parks.
Large trail maps are located at key junctions, and pocket maps are available at most bike rental outlets. Download the Valley Trail Map.
Please follow the basic rules of the trail:
- Keep to the right
- Share the trail
- Leash your dogs
- Clean up after them using the waste bags and bear-proof bins provided

Tips for Walking to Work
1. Plan Your Route – The best route to walk to work may be different than your normal driving route.
2. Predict Your Walking Time – Don’t be late for work. How long will it take you to walk to work? For your first walking commute, plan on a pace of 12 minutes per kilometre or 20 minutes per mile.
3. Wear the Right Walking Clothes – Can you walk to work in your usual work clothes? This will depend on the weather, the length of your walk, and whether you wear casual clothes or business attire. Your walking clothing should allow a proper walking stride.
4. Be Seen – Wear reflective clothing and/or carry lights, if you are walking in the early morning or evening.
