RMOW seeks expertise regarding Learning and Education Planning Process

The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is currently reviewing applications for the council-appointed task force being established for its Learning and Education Planning Process. The purpose of this process is to investigate economic development opportunities for Whistler within the field of learning and education.

In addition to the task force, the RMOW is also seeking the services of a highly skilled professional working independently or with a consultancy, to execute preparation of a Learning and Education Strategy for Whistler. The assignment is to provide these services on a contractual basis for the duration of the project. The deadline for submission for the Project Manager position has been extended to September 16, 2012.

Whistler is a maturing and evolving resort community interested in actively pursuing opportunities that will complement and diversify its tourism economy. Learning and education are considered to have significant economic growth potential, while providing other community benefits. A variety of proposals and initiatives are currently seeking the support of the municipality.

The municipality is committed to undertaking a deliberate approach to identifying and evaluating the full range of potential opportunities with respect to furthering Whistler’s vision, values and planning policies. As directed by municipal council, the planning and community engagement process will result in a strategic framework with specific objectives, criteria and recommendations for guiding decision-making for learning and education opportunities. A preliminary scoping of this process and the desired outcomes is presented within the June 19, 2012 Administrative Report to Council: Planning and Community Engagement for Education Opportunities (refer to page 71) . The process will take place between September 2012 and March 2013.

The process will build upon the municipality’s higher level policies (Whistler2020, the municipality’s existing Official Community Plan and the updated OCP given first reading on November 15, 2011) and the recommendations contained within the OCP’s Academica study.
