Town Plaza Neighbourhood working together to increase success
"Bridge to Bridge” Neighbourhood-level planning initiative starts this week
June 20, 2012: Whistler, BC – With the support of the Mayor and Council, the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is embarking on an innovative neighbourhood-level planning initiative in the Village. To achieve the greatest success, this project requires collaboration amongst all retailers, landowners, neighbourhood stakeholders and the RMOW. The first area that is being looked at is Town Plaza.
This collaborative project, called “Town Plaza – Bridge to Bridge Neighbourhood” covers the area from the Ted Nebbeling Bridge over Village Gate Boulevard north to the Sightlines Bridge, including the Bear Lodge, Eagle Lodge, Deer Lodge, Public Safety Building, Municipal Hall, Delta Whistler Village Suites and Millennium Place.
The objective of this neighbourhood meeting is to provide more identity to the neighbourhood and thus draw more locals and visitors to support these businesses. Held over two half-day sessions, the facilitated conversations will create a shared vision for the Bridge to Bridge Neighbourhood.
“Through this collaborative planning and “place-making”, the municipality supports and enhances success, involving the community to ensure the reinvestments are as effective as possible for all Whistler taxpayers,” says Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden. “These sessions are a key component of the Council Action Plan, delivering on four priority areas: Increased Accountability and Engagement, Client-Focused Service Delivery, Open For Business and Progressive Resort Community Planning.”
“Resort and retail landscapes all over the world forever evolve”, says Maria Wood, of Appia Development (Whistler) Inc. “Working with the RMOW and our Tenants to develop a Bridge to Bridge neighbourhood concept will enhance the Whistler Resort Experience for visitors and tenants alike.”
As a commitment to this planning project, the RMOW has dedicated staff resources as well as capital funding. A key objective is to identify and partner upon investments in projects that are implementable this year, providing immediate gains.
Additional Village neighbourhood planning sessions will take place over the coming months.
