Improvements to the Meadow Park Sports Centre fitness centre are underway, including expansion of the cardio room and the addition of a stretching room.
The west rooftop patio area beside the existing cardio room will be enclosed to add approximately 138 square meters (1485 square feet) of usable space with:
- expanded fitness centre cardio room space;
- increased equipment access and availability;
- a new dedicated stretching room for the public to use.
Perimeter fencing and scaffolding has been installed at the sports centre. The patio pavers and guardrails have been removed from the patio outside of the existing cardio room, and work has begun to provide the base supports for the new structure.
A donation of $400,000 from the Community Foundation of Whistler’s (CFOW) Emerald Foundation supported the cardio room expansion and stretching room addition. This contribution makes it possible to realize the long-held plans to expand indoor fitness space onto the second floor west facing outer deck. The expansion project was awarded to TM Builders by Council at the June 11 Regular Council meeting.
Work is scheduled to take place from June 2019 to April 2020.
The pool, fitness centre, fitness studio, squash courts and change rooms will be closed on Wednesday, October 9 from 1-5 p.m. due to anticipated high noise levels due to construction activity. The arena and front desk area will remain open during this time.
High construction noise levels should be expected during business hours (approximately Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), for the month of October, and potentially beyond. Apart from the above closure, all services will remain open, including the cardio room and surrounding areas.
