The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is inviting qualified consultant Proponents to provide proposals for a research and policy recommendation report regarding options the RMOW could consider for lakes and docks management in the Whistler valley lakes. The RMOW has a budget of $25,000.00 to complete this project.
Growing use of local lakes and growing concern with the impacts are providing the impetus for the RMOW to consider alternative methods of managing lakes rather than relying on provincial and federal regulations and oversight.
The RMOW may be interested in assuming the role of managing local lakes in regards to dock authorizations and boating regulations. Specifically, the lakes are Alta, Green, Alpha, Nita and Lost Lakes. Typically, those responsibilities rest with provincial and/or federal government agencies. In order to make a decision, the RMOW wants to explore alternative management approaches adopted by BC or other Canadian municipalities, receive a recommended approach suited for Whistler, and to understand the ongoing cost and resourcing implications of adopting the recommended approach.
