Celestri (Heavenly Body) was commissioned by Intrawest and the Four Seasons Resort at the time the resort property was developed. The proposal was selected through an open, juried competition process.

This sculpture draws on two historical artifacts used to measure the passage of time and the seasons: an equatorial sundial and the planisphere. The sundial utilizes the sun’s light to cast shadows indicating the time of day. The planisphere, represented by the two discs, shows the movement of the constellations through the seasons. As light passes through to the constellation map etched onto the lower disc, the viewer can see on the ground the shadows of the stars and planets of our night sky as they change through the seasons.
