World’s Largest Pine Cone

This basalt sculpture is located at a Valley Trail junction by the pond at the south end of Alta Lake. To the north, the trail leads to Alta Lake Park and beyond to Alta Lake Road. To the south, the trail leads to Nita Lake and to the east this trail would take you to Wayside Park.

The pine cone sculpture is a fun take on the tradition of stone cairn trail markers. This piece is one part of the Valley Trail public art series. That series spread art associated with the Valley Trail from Alpine in the north to Alpha Lake Park in the south. VANOC (the Organizing Committee of the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games) also commissioned art that is located along the Valley Trail at former Games venues in Creekside and Cheakamus Crossing.
