The RBC GranFondo Whistler will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2017
Between 3,000 and 4,000 cyclists will pedal 122 kilometres for the 8th annual RBC GranFondo Whistler.
The road biking ride runs from Vancouver, along the Sea to Sky Highway, to Whistler.
Spectators can be part of the RBC GranFondo Whistler experience too! Residences and businesses along the route will have front row seats as thousands of participants challenge themselves up the Sea to Sky corridor.
The following locations are recommended spectator areas:
7:00 a.m. (West Vancouver) - Cheer on the riders on Taylor Way Boulevard as they approach the 7 km mark and prepare for the first steep climb.
8:00 a.m. (Squamish) - The riders will pass by Mamquam Road in Squamish at the 67 km mark. Spectators can watch curbside at Garibaldi Village Mall.
10:00 a.m. (Whistler) - The first riders will cross the finish line on Blackcomb Way. Spectators are encouraged to join in the celebration from the Whistler Olympic Plaza.
Travelling and Parking within Whistler
Although the Sea to Sky Highway in Whistler will be open in both directions, traffic will be significantly delayed from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. south of Whistler Village.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to take transit, walk, or bike on September 10. Whistler Transit is free of charge during the day until 6 p.m. and will operate with modified routes south of Whistler Village.
Access Whistler Village by Lorimer Road. Pay parking is available in Day Lots 1, 2, and 3 as well as free parking in Day Lot 5 (which is likely to be full before 9 a.m.). Day Lot 4 will be closed to vehicles on Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 9.
Whistler Traffic Modifications
- Village Gate Boulevard will be closed eastbound from Northlands Blvd. to Blackcomb Way from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Motorists should use Lorimer Road to access Whistler Village.
- Blackcomb Way West will be closed from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists should use Lorimer Road and Blackcomb Way East.
Sea to Sky Highway
Although the Sea to Sky Highway will be open in both directions, traffic will be significantly delayed between Vancouver and Whistler from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Expect stops, slow speeds, and some detours.
Traffic will be slowest from 6–8 a.m. on Lions Gate Bridge, 6 a.m.– noon Horseshoe Bay to Squamish, 6 a.m.–4 p.m. Squamish to Whistler, and from 9 a.m.– 4:30 p.m. in Whistler.
