GETTING AROUND

PARKS
Pay parking is now in effect in Whistler’s parks.
Rainbow Park
As a reminder, Rainbow Park Rejuvenation project Phase 2 begins next week on Monday, June 5. The main beach, lawn, parking lots and the Valley Trail section running through the park will be closed. Thank you for your patience throughout the construction period!
Lost Lake
- Parking: The parking lot is closed due to construction. Starting Saturday, June 3 parking will open for public access for pick-up/drop-off on weekends. During the week it will be open for pick-up/drop-off only, with potential periodic closures during work hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Transit: Free transit to the park will begin on Saturday, June 17.
- Park Eats: Food trucks are at Lost Lake 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (weather permitting) Friday through Monday as part of the Park Eats program. Over the next two weekends, expect to see Folie Crepes, Whistler Wood Fired Pizza, or Lucia Gelato!
- Toads: Our climate and environment team has notified us that Western Toad tadpoles are going to start showing up at the Lost Lake Beach any day now! With this in mind, a few reminders for park users: Do not touch tadpoles; they have porous skin and naturally occurring salts and oils on human hands can be very damaging. Do not enter the wetland; this is sensitive habitat that supports Western Toad tadpoles but also many other species.

We are rolling toward summer event season with a busy week ahead in Whistler. This includes:

CONSTRUCTION
Expect minor traffic delays and congestion for vehicles and pedestrians at the locations listed below. Please follow directions from the traffic control personnel.

- NEW – Valley Trail near Whistler Golf Course: Site restoration work is underway for paving on the Valley Trail in front of the Whistler Golf Course club house. Cyclists, please watch for loose gravel.
- Alta Vista: Paving is complete. Clean-up work is being done throughout the neighbourhood. Cyclists, watch for uneven and loose gravel surfaces.
- Lake Placid Road: Construction is minimal at Lake Placid Road near the train station. Site restoration work is ongoing, including asphalt, irrigation, seeding and drainage. Sidewalk restoration work is also being done at the Highway 99 entrance.
- Millar Creek Valley Trail between Function Junction and Tamarisk: Construction is paused until further notice.
- Northlands Boulevard: Water and sewer valve and fitting work is ongoing. Additionally, construction starts June 5 on a private trail section in the Glaciers Reach complex. The trail will be closed at the midway point.

Week of June 12 to June 18, 2023
NOTICES
Fire
As of Sunday Jun 4, 2023, Whistler’s fire danger rating is rated as “EXTREME.” This means:
- no fires are allowed;
- only propane barbecues are allowed in Whistler’s parks;
- CSA-rated or ULC-rated portable campfire apparatus’ that uses propane fuel are allowed, as long as the height of the flame is less than 15 centimeters, and it is used in accordance with the manufacturer recommendations.
Trail Work
We will have a team of qualified environmental professionals conducting bird surveys along sections of the Valley Trail next week, followed by flail mowing work to prevent grass and shrubs from encroaching onto the trail. Surveys will ensure the work does not affect ground-nesting species and species nesting in small shrubs. Please note, if the fire danger rating remains high, this work will be postponed.
GETTNG AROUND
Transit
Whistler Transit is shifting to the summer transit schedule on Saturday, June 17. This will include additional trips added to the following transit routes:
- 7 Staff Housing
- 10 Valley Express
Please refer to the most recent Whistler Riders’ Guide for updated schedules.
Complimentary service will be available on all routes Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays between Saturday, June 17 through Labour Day (Monday, September 4). The free summer service is funded by parking fees from Day Lots 1-5 and the Lost Lake Shuttle is sponsored by the Province of B.C.’s Resort Municipality Initiative. PARKS
Rainbow Park:

- Parking: Parking at Lost Lake is now open for pick up/drop off. Please note there may be periodic closures of the parking lot due to construction Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Transit: A reminder that starting Saturday, June 17 the Lost Lake Park free shuttle will operate daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. leaving from post 4 in Gondola Transit Exchange.

- Saturday, June 10: WORCA Back Forty – The three-stage course stretches from Cheakamus, then up the Westside mountain bike trails to Meadow Park. Watch for riders in these areas.
- Saturday, June 17: Xfondo Whistler – Watch for riders around Lost Lake and on the Sea to Sky trail north.

- Whistler Way: Paving from the Whistler Conference Center lot entrance to Mountain Lane.
- Valley Trail near Whistler Golf Course: Site restoration work continues for paving on the Valley Trail in front of the Whistler Golf Course club house. Cyclists, please watch for loose gravel.
