Whistler’s Council presented three Civic Service Awards to recognize Josie Chuback, Kirk Hulse and Mandy Rousseau for their volunteer contributions on Council committees and boards. This is the sixth year that Civic Service Awards have been presented to acknowledge Council committee and board volunteers for their contributions and service to the Whistler community. The Awards were given at the Regular Council meeting on October 22, 2019.
Josie Chuback’s award is for her work on the Recreation Leisure Advisory Committee (RLAC). The RLAC is a select Committee of Council focused on matters related to the provision and delivery of indoor and outdoor recreation and leisure opportunities, as well as services and issues, and works to achieve a balance between infrastructure and Whistler’s unique natural environment. Josie is currently serving as Chair; she is noted for her attention to detail and care for every topic discussed. Josie is also a member of the Whistler Public Library Board of Trustees.
Kirk Hulse’s award is for his work on the Technology Advisory Committee. This committee provides impartial professional technology advice and digital thought leadership to Council on issues referred by Council or community input. Kirk has been a committed volunteer on the committee since its inception, and the Technology Advisory Committee has greatly benefited from Kirk’s expertise in technology that stems from his extensive private sector IT experience combined with on the ground knowledge of the Whistler community.
Mandy Rousseau’s award is for her work on the Whistler Public Library Board of Trustees. The Library Board helps make the Library a dynamic, progressive, and inspiring place. The Library Board has benefited greatly from Mandy’s extensive technology knowledge and her professional experience as Marketing and Communications Manager at the Squamish and Lil’wat Cultural Centre and formerly as the Development Officer for Arts Whistler. During her two years as trustee, Mandy has served as Chair of the Library Fundraising Committee and is the designated board liaison to the Friends of the Library. Mandy has streamlined the library’s processes for collecting donation information for the Rotary and Cornucopia silent auctions and has been instrumental in helping develop strategies for continuing to raise funds to support library infrastructure improvements.
Mayor Jack Crompton expressed Council’s gratitude to all committee members during the award presentations.
“Council depends on the expert and insightful work of these volunteers to guide community input and recommendations into municipal decision making. Whistler is lucky to benefit from their advice. Thank you to all the volunteers on Council committees and boards who donate their time to the Resort Municipality of Whistler.”
Josie Chuback, Kirk Hulse and Mandy Rousseau are three of approximately one hundred individuals on a total of 19 Council committees and two boards.
