Reignite the Olympic spirit in Whistler this Winter Games starting Friday, February 9
You don’t need to travel to halfway across the world or stay glued to your television to cheer on Team Canada during the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Throw on your red and white gear and head to Whistler Village for a festive lineup of activities from Friday, February 9 to Sunday, February 25, 2018.
Marking the eight-year anniversary of Whistler’s role as Host Mountain Resort for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, it’s time to bring the Games spirit back. The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) will show daily CBC broadcasts of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the big screen in Olympic Plaza including replays and Team Canada highlights. It’s the perfect place for the whole family to cheer on Sea to Sky Olympians and watch your favourite events along with other fans.
But you don’t need to be an Olympian to try your hand at some of the famous Winter Games sports. The RMOW has a range of offers this B.C. Family Day on Monday, February 12.
Ski, skate or sweat like an Olympian this B.C. Family Day with these special offers, available on February 12, only:
- Lost Lake Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Trails – 50% off cross country ski or snowshoe day tickets. And then gather around the outdoor fire pit at the Lost Lake warming hut to enjoy free hot chocolate and marshmallows.
- Meadow Park Sports Centre – 50% off all drop-in visits to the skating-rink, pool and fitness facilities at the Meadow Park Sports Centre (excluding drop-in hockey).
- Whistler Olympic Plaza Skating Rink – 50% off children’s skate rentals when accompanied by an adult (admission is free).
Family Après will also take on a Games flavour with Games-themed activities to complement the live music and tasty treats that are on offer every Monday and Wednesday afternoon. Family Après is held at the Olympic Plaza from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on February 12, 14, 19 and 21 during the 2018 Winter Games.
On B.C. Family Day on Monday, February 12 and again on Monday, February 19, attending Family Après could win you one of two amazing Whistler Sliding Centre experiences. Taking a run down the track inside a bobsled is an experience for the bucket list and it could be you and a friend ticking it off just by joining the Family Après fun. These prizes are kindly provided by the Whistler Sliding Centre.
“The anniversary is a great opportunity for the community to come out and reignite the incredible energy and excitement of the 2010 Winter Games,” said Whistler Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden. “I encourage everyone to celebrate the PyeongChang Games, cheer on local athletes at the Olympic Plaza broadcasts and join the range of Olympic-inspired activities around town. And of course it will be a great time to reminisce about your favourite 2010 memories.”
