Cardio room expansion and stretching room addition scheduled to be completed by April 2020
Work is underway on a cardio room expansion and stretching room addition at Meadow Park Sports Centre that will add 138 square metres of space to the facility.
The rooftop patio area beside the existing cardio room will be enclosed to add space with:
- expanded fitness centre cardio room space;
- increased equipment access and availability;
- a new dedicated stretching room for the public to use.
“Meadow Park Sports Centre is a busy fitness centre. It is an important community asset because it helps people stay active year round,” said Mayor Jack Crompton. “Thank you to the Community Foundation of Whistler for their donation that made this expansion possible.”
Noise is expected during the construction, which is anticipated to be completed in April 2020, but all services will remain open, including the cardio room and surrounding areas. Some of the major work will take place during the centre’s annual maintenance in August and September to minimize inconvenience to the public.
A donation of $400,000 from the Community Foundation of Whistler’s (CFOW) Emerald Foundation supported the cardio room expansion and stretching room addition. This contribution makes it possible to realize the long-held plans to expand indoor fitness space onto the second floor west facing outer deck.
Meadow Park Sports Centre offers a six-lane pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub, a NHL-sized arena, squash courts, weight room and a fitness studio. Since opening in 1993, there have been several building enhancements and annual maintenance is undertaken to ensure the upkeep of high standard community facilities.
The expansion project was awarded for $1,419,291.27 to TM Builders by Council at the June 11 Regular Council meeting. Visit here for updates on the project.
