With summer camps, outdoor fitness classes, arena bookings and community school rentals well underway, the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is now excited to welcome pass holders back to Meadow Park Sports Centre (MPSC) starting Monday, August 17, 2020. Appropriate health and safety precautions and protocols have been strategically planned and implemented to keep staff, customers and the community safe as recreation services are reintroduced.
The RMOW has embraced an adaptive, measured approach to safely plan, and reactivate recreation programs and facilities in close alignment with the recommendations of the Provincial Health Office and associated recreation agency guidelines, including but not limited to BC Recreation and Parks Association , Recreation Facilities Association of British Columbia, viaSport, Municipal Insurance Association of British Columbia and Vancouver Coastal Health.
During the initial return to indoor recreation at Meadow Park Sports Centre, the following amenities will be available in a time slot booking format under modified hours of operation from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., seven days a week:
- 75-minute bookable time slots for fitness centre use, including access to the weight room, cardio room and stretching rooms
- 45-minute squash/basketball court bookings for up to two members of the same household
Pre-booked time slots need be reserved prior to visiting the facility up to 72-hours in advance. Public access will be restricted to facility users with a reservation, and drop-in visits will not be permitted at this time.
Existing memberships have been extended for the duration of the closure, plus three additional weeks as a thank you for your continued patience. All passes will be active as of August 17. Fitness centre reservations can be made online through your recreation account or over the phone, and squash courts can be reserved by calling 604-935-PLAY (7529) during business hours.
There will be no access to the pool area, changing facilities or showers, and limited storage options will be available for personal belongings. Please come dressed for your session and only bring essential items.
The targeted reopening dates for additional services at Meadow Park Sports Centre, based on existing health recommendations, are as follows:
- Limited pool use for lane swimming only – Mid-September
- Limited arena use for public skate, Stick & Puck sessions and café – Mid-September
- Limited indoor fitness classes – Mid-September
- Expanded operating hours for select services – Early October
- Expanded program offerings – Mid-October
This planned restoration of services is deliberately built to be flexible and allow for the scaling of services and programs to meet the changing direction from health authorities. In this regard, targeted opening dates may need to be modified.
Your visit to Meadow Park Sports Centre will look different as the facility reopens in a phased manner. For more information on current availability, process changes, and what is required prior to arriving at the facility visit: whistler.ca/mpsc.
