Initial open house scheduled for Thursday, December 6
The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is excited to launch OUTSIDE VOICE, a year-long conversation with the community to develop a master plan for the future of Whistler’s parks.
The process will see the community come together to decide how to keep Whistler’s parks vibrant and fresh well into the future. Over the next 12 months, there will be a range of open houses, surveys and online opportunities – with the first open house taking place on Thursday, December 6 to review park assets and collect ideas.
“Whistler has a reputation for leading-edge park planning and design, and our parks have become iconic elements of the unique Whistler experience,” said Whistler Mayor Jack Crompton.
“With our growing visitor and resident populations, and the changing needs of Whistler, now is an excellent time for the community to come together, look at our world-class parks, and make decisions about what we want these assets to look like as we continue to evolve.”
A Multi-Step Process
Developing Whistler’s Parks Master Plan is a multi-step engagement process that will begin now and continue until late 2019.
It involves three phases:
- The Assessing Phase to look at what we have today and create an inventory.
- The Imagining Phase to put ideas together to create and assess options.
- The Designing Phase to develop conceptual designs to move plans into action.
Listening to the community has been embedded into each step of the process and continues the forward-looking community engagement planning that has been foundational to the update of Whistler’s Community Vision and Official Community Plan.

The Assessing Phase is already underway.
Work completed to date includes engineering park surveys and base mapping, staff interviews, a neighbourhood parks and natural areas inventory and SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis, and a major parks asset inventory and conditions assessment.
Now, the community is invited to provide input at the Park Inventory Open House on Thursday, December 6, 4 to 6 p.m. at the Whistler Conference Centre, Harmony Room.
An OUTSIDE VOICE survey will also be distributed digitally from December 7 to 20 to further consult the community at whistler.ca/outsidevoice.
“We want to hear from you. Come out to the open house and take the Outside Voice survey – your input is important,” added Crompton.
