Homeowners advised to have their pressure reducing valve (PRV) checked
The Resort Municipality of Whistler has received reports of water being delivered at high pressure to the Alpine and Rainbow neighborhoods during the week of September 30–October 4 including potential water damage in some cases. Utilities staff are investigating the reports.
If home owners in Alpine and Rainbow have recently experienced water damage they should first contact their home insurance agency. All home owners should confirm their pressure reducing valves (PRV) are operational and functioning properly.
The RMOW is committed to minimizing any utilities disruption to residents. Municipal water pressure can change suddenly due to routine maintenance, a water main break or municipal emergency. When this occurs, a fluctuation in pressure can put strain on internal plumbing fixtures if the PRV is not functioning properly. PRV’s are required by the plumbing code and are available at local hardware and plumbing stores. Homeowners should have their PRV’s installed and maintained regularly by plumbing professionals.
