Olympic and Paralympic bid process invites community members to engage, help inform and shape a Games concept and vision

On June 14, 2022 at a ceremony at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre in Whistler, the Lil̓wat7úl (Líl̓wat), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations, together with partners at the City of Vancouver, Resort Municipality of Whistler, Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC), officially revealed a concept for hosting a future Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Now that a concept is developed, the project moves from the ‘Feasibility Stage’ into an ‘Engagement Phase’ which will include robust community engagement and discussion around the Games hosting concept with the public. The Games feasibility team is actively seeking to discuss the project in greater detail with the community and key stakeholders at the local, regional, and national levels.

Based on the shared values of respect, inclusivity and community, community members are invited to share their insights and feedback and reimagine what a Games could be when it is Indigenous-led and focused on reconciliation.

An Invitation to Engage

The Resort Municipality of Whistler encourages Whistler community members to share thoughts on the initial Games concept and potential legacies a future Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games could leave behind.

“I’m excited to move into the engagement phase with our partners.  We will be having important discussions in all of our communities.  We want to hear how we can make this bid meaningful and impactful for you,” said Mayor Jack Crompton.  “Please mark these important input events in your calendar.”
