An online version of Whistler’s community housing needs survey is now available at whistler.ca/housing.
The survey, which will be live until April 24, is open to anyone who works, lives or owns property in Whistler and has not participated already in the phone or intercept survey.
Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden, “If you haven’t been contacted already to complete the community housing needs survey, and you live, work or own property in Whistler, I encourage you to take 10 to 15 minutes to complete the survey online.
“We are in the process of gathering important data not currently available from other sources to help us understand our community’s present housing situation: for example, how Whistler’s current housing inventory is being used, the rate of property utilization by Whistler workforce, and what the barriers are for homeowners to rent out their properties. This data will help to inform future task force initiatives and decision-making by Whistler Council and resort partners.”
The survey builds on other work by the Resort Municipality of Whistler’s Mayor’s Task Force on Resident Housing, and will help the task force to better understand Whistler’s current housing situation, and specifically:
- how the existing inventory of residential homes is currently used by the various segments of the local population;
- the evolution of household structures and current housing needs;
- future anticipated workforce housing needs; and
- support for initiatives to address affordability for workforce housing.
The online survey follows a random phone and intercept survey of 600 workers and 200 homeowners launched in March.
A survey report is expected to be finalized in May. Learn more about housing initiatives at whistler.ca/housing.
