About Council Committees

Committees play an important role in municipal decision-making as they provide professional advice and recommendations to Council depending on the mandate of the committee. Each committee has one to three Council appointees, in addition to subject matter experts from the community. Standing Committees meet regularly and typically have a broader mandate than a select committee, which is appointed for a special purpose. Committee meetings are generally open to the public, unless the agenda requires the meeting to be closed.
