Integrated Council meeting documents and video make it easy to stay informed
The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is excited to introduce a new way for the community to stay informed about Council meeting information and Council decisions. Beginning November 5, Council meeting information, previously available online, will be easier than ever to access at whistler.ca/CouncilMeetings. New interactive software will simplify access to information and support the RMOW’s commitment to an efficient, transparent, and accessible decision-making process.
All of the information you need is now in one place. Using this new technology, council meeting agendas, minutes and videos can be accessed in an interactive format that cues recorded video footage to relevant content in the agenda and minutes. Calendar and list formatted displays offer two choices to find a specific meeting date. Find out more about specific topics of interest by searching for keywords that will display past and upcoming meeting content. PDF format documents will still be available to download.
The community is always encouraged to attend Council meetings, however, this new software provides options to access Council information before and after meetings.
“Council meetings are the primary decision-making avenue for municipal government and it’s important for community members, including second homeowners and seasonal residents, to be involved in this process,” explained Mayor Jack Crompton. “Time and location are no longer barriers to participation. It is easier than ever to watch a meeting from a distance, and learn more about the decisions that affect our day to day life.”
More options to stay informed
The introduction of new technologies in recent months has improved access to information and removed barriers typical of traditional public participation practices. Members of the public can now find information related to development input opportunities online by visiting www.whistler.ca/DevelopmentInput. Participation in public hearings is currently taking place electronically via Zoom.
There are a variety of ways to stay informed about municipal information. Subscribe to the weekly Whistler Today e-newsletter, The Whistler Podcast, or follow the RMOW on social media to receive the summarized version of municipal news, including council meeting updates. Visit whistler.ca/GetInvolved for more information.
Regular Council meetings are held on Tuesdays twice monthly at 5:30 p.m. and are open to the public. Meetings are currently held virtually, though in-person council meetings are normally held at the Maury Young Arts Centre.
