Be part of the conversation about Whistler’s transportation future
On Tuesday, January 17, from 5 to 8 p.m., join your friends and neighbours for the Transportation Community Forum at the Whistler Conference Centre in the Grand Foyer.
The event is a valuable opportunity to learn about the latest transportation research and strategies, as well as share your ideas.
The evening will cover:
- The extensive research collected over the past year on the use of Whistler’s highway, roads, parking and transit;
- Proposed short, medium and long-term action plans to alleviate transportation and parking pressure; and
- Multiple opportunities for input, including dialogue with Council members, members of the Transportation Advisory Group (TAG) and Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) staff through one on one conversations, group discussions, an Ideas Wall and an online survey following the event.
“Helping people travel to and within Whistler and ensuring they get to where they want to go in a timely matter are high-priorities for our community,” said Whistler Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden. “I encourage everyone from across the community to come out and be part of the open conversation about our transportation challenges and opportunities. This forum will allow you to learn about the latest research and planning, and to share your thoughts on what is being proposed.”
What to Expect
The forum will allow members of the community to provide input on and refine the proposed solution-focused actions to Whistler’s anticipated transportation challenges in 2017 and beyond.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with posters highlighting the research and plans, and members from TAG and RMOW staff will be on hand to answer questions. A presentation will take place at 5:30 p.m. to provide a more detailed overview of work completed to date.
Following the presentations, attendees will break out into five discussion groups on specific areas related to transit, the highway, parking, non-motorized transportation solutions, infrastructure improvements and other components.
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in two of the discussion groups. Each table will have a table host to help guide the conversation and a note taker to capture input. For those who wish to provide input to more than two areas, there will be opportunities to provide feedback online, on a paper questionnaire, on poster boards or directly to RMOW staff or TAG members.
Activities for children and refreshments will also be provided throughout the evening.
