Reports of a defensive bear on the Fitz Nature Walk Trail, bluff charging trail users
The RMOW has received reports of a bear at the Fitzsimmons Nature Walk Trail that has bluff charged people in the area and is beginning to show defensive behaviour towards humans. While using the trail ensure to always keep dogs on a leash and make plenty of noise so that the bear hears you are coming. If ever approached by a bear, try and remain calm, be assertive and talk to the bear while backing away from the area and leave the area immediately. Remember to never run from a bear as it can provoke aggressive behaviour. For more information visit whistler.ca/bears
Report any bears in residential areas by phoning the Conservation RAPP line at 1-877-952-RAPP (7277). Early reporting allows the COS to intervene before a bear becomes habituated, and allows them to haze the out of the area.
