Whistler’s economy is based on tourism, and travel has a large carbon footprint.
The RMOW’s Community Energy and Climate Action Plan (CECAP) outlines recommended actions towards more sustainable travel to Whistler that focus on working with regional passenger carriers, corridor communities and the Province to improve mass transportation and reduce emissions.
Global tourism struggles to identify a way forward to a low carbon future, and there are no easy solutions to maintaining Whistler’s tourism economy while reducing emissions from travel.
Building on the CECAP recommendations, the RMOW’s Climate Action Big Moves Strategy recommends continuing to engage community partners, regional passenger carriers, Sea to Sky corridor communities and the Province in discussions to collaboratively develop ways to improve mass transportation and reduce emissions.
