Latest Status

The assessment and design phases were finalized by ISL Engineering and Land Services Ltd. in 2024. The procurement phase happened in the fall and the invitation to tender was posted in November to December of 2024. The Contract was approved by Council and awarded for construction in January 2025.  Currently, the project is set for construction to start in May and will be completed by July 31, 2025.

Overview

The purpose of the Crabapple Sewer Force Main Replacement Project is to replace a section of aging infrastructure. It has been determined as a high priority and replacing it will ensure a reliable and resilient sewer system for residents and the surrounding area.

What’s happening

  • Sewer station bypass will be set up over land within the property limits
  • Excavation of existing sewer force main.
  • Replacement of sewer force main pipes, valves and fittings
  • Remove the overland sewer bypass and return the sewer station and sewer force main back to normal operation.

Benefits

Sewer Main replacement and upgrades:

  • Provides: Improved Reliability and Reduced Risk of Failures
  • Prevents breakdowns: Replacing aging or damaged force mains reduces the risk of system failures, which could lead to costly repairs and environmental hazards.
  • Prevents contaminant leaks: Damaged force mains can leak untreated wastewater into the environment, potentially causing contamination of groundwater and nearby water bodies. A replacement helps prevent this risk.
  • Improves public health: By preventing sewage backups or leaks, sewer force main replacements contribute to better public health outcomes by reducing the chances of sewer spills entering public spaces.
  • Meet modern standards: New force mains are designed to meet current regulatory standards.

In summary, replacing sewer force mains offers benefits ranging from improved system reliability and capacity to cost savings, environmental protection, and compliance with regulations.
