2025 Valley Trail expansion

The Resort Municipality of Whistler is constructing a new 160m segment of illuminated Valley Trail near the intersection of Bayshores Drive and Highway 99. This missing link in the Valley Trail network is an important segment that will provide a needed safe route for all ages and abilities to connect to existing Valley Trail ends on both sides of the highway.  The project also connects to an existing bus stop and will provide electrical services to a future bus shelter.

The project is guided by the Whistler 2019 Valley Trail Safety Assessment, the Whistler Active Transportation Strategy, and our OCP Schedules: E1, E2, E3.

Climate Action Big Moves

Big Move 1 / 1.7 “Identify gaps in the Valley Trail Network and develop plans to close the gaps.” The Valley Trail network is a key piece of the Active Transportation network and as such is essential to Big Moves #1 to move beyond the car.

Scope of work

  • 160m of new separated/protected Valley Trail from highway 99
  • LED trail lighting
  • 14m clear span bridge over Write Off creek

  • Improved stormwater management and drainage for the area
  • Native species landscape revegetation
