Overview
The Resort Municipality of Whistler is currently planning the construction of ~2km of new illuminated Valley Trail near Alpha Lake and Alta Lake Road.
1km of new Valley Trail would connect Alpha Lake Park and Pine Point Park to the recent Millar Creek Valley Trail and another 1km of curb separated Valley Trail along Alta Lake Road from the East end of the Millar Creek Valley Trail to Hwy 99.
These key missing links in the Valley Trail network are significant network connections that will provide a needed safe route for all ages and abilities to seamlessly connect to the existing Valley Trail network and the greater community. The project also directly integrates park recreation spaces, waterfront access and direct bus stop connectivity at Hwy 99.
The project is guided by an extensive Valley Trail feasibility study for the area, the Whistler Active Transportation Strategy, and our OCP Schedules: E1, E2, E3.
Climate Action Big Moves
Big Move 1 / 1.7 “Identify gaps in the Valley Trail Network and develop plans to close the gaps.” The Valley Trail network is a key piece of the Active Transportation network and as such is essential to Big Moves #1 to move beyond the car.
