Bear notice – Bear killed after entering multiple homes

brown bear

On July 15, Conservation Officers attended reports of a black bear inside a home in Emerald Estates, Whistler.

The same bear had previously entered multiple homes in Alpine Meadows.

Due to the risk to public safety, Conservation Officers destroyed the bear. Food conditioned bears with minimal fear of people and comfort accessing dwellings are not candidates for rehabilitation or relocation.

Residents are asked to be mindful of open doors and windows on homes, where bears could gain access, and remember tosecure attractants such as garbage, pet food and birdseed.

Report bear conflicts to Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) hotline at 1-877-952-7277.
