Construction of the Cheakamus Crossing Phase 2 development continues.The Cheakamus West FSR will remain closed entirely until the end of August. Vehicle access beyond the construction site (to Loggers Lake) will reopen mid fall once the Mt. Fee Road extension is completed.
To proceed for the next phases of development in the Cheakamus Crossing Phase 2 lands, vegetation clearing and thinning work is scheduled to happen on Lot 2 and 3 starting next week. Due to high risk of flying debris from the tree felling equipment, the Riverside Trail will be closed between 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 8.
Please note that the Cheakamus Crossing Phase 2 neighbourhood is an active construction site, and public access is restricted. Do not access the site by foot, bicycle, or vehicle until further notice.
The Cheakamus West Forest Service Road (FSR) is currently closed for installation of a new water main. The Riverside Trail and Ridge Trail will remain accessible, apart from periodic, temporary closures when necessary for construction activities.
No public access is permitted through the construction site. Vehicle access beyond the construction site (to Loggers Lake, etc) will reopen in mid to late summer once the the Mt. Fee Road extension is completed.

To facilitate construction of the Cheakamus Crossing Phase 2 development, the Cheakamus West Forest Service Road (FSR) will have the following upcoming incremental closures:

Cheakamus West Forest Service Road will be closed temporarily on Tuesday, August 24 from 8 a.m. to noon to unload materials.
Signage will be installed in advance of the closure to notify road users. Emergency access to Loggers Lake will be available as a detour through the site. All trails will remain open.
The Forest Service Road was opened to public vehicles on June 1st. It will remain open during construction until approximately October 1, when it will close again to complete the installation of a waterline. Extreme caution should be used on the Forest Service Road.
The Riverside Trail continues to remain open and the construction of the new Ridge Bypass Trail is completed and remains open. FireSmart Fuel thinning has been completed around the entire perimeter of the site.
Building A and Building B construction are well underway, with earthworks, drilling, blasting, rock hammering ongoing.
Impacts and service disruptions
The second phase of tree felling will commence on Wednesday, March 24. To ensure the safety of the public, Riverside Trail and the southern section of the Upper Ridge Trail will be closed on Wednesday, March 24 and possibly Thursday, March 25 to facilitate clearing adjacent to the trails. Trail closures will be in effect 8am to 6pm. Signage will be installed at all entry points indicating a temporary closure and the durations. Due to the danger of flying debris, it is extremely important that the trail users respect this temporary trail closure.
Additionally, crews will commence rock hammering on Tuesday, March 23 as part of the earthworks for the 'Parcel A' employee housing development. The hammering will take place 8am to 4:30pm. The rock hammering is anticipated to be completed by end of day Friday, March 26.
We recognize that this causes some disruption for residents and trail users. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we create future resident housing for our community.

Crews have begun drilling and blasting on Parcel A for the Cheakamus Crossing employee housing development. This work is expected to conclude on February 12th.

Crews will be mobilizing equipment to the Upper Lands starting January 6 to facilitate site clearing for the 'Parcel A' employee housing development and Mount Fee Road extension. This clearing work has been approved by development permit and advances the delivery of new rental employee housing that helps to meet the housing objectives of the RMOW. Work will include tree felling, brush removal and processing. This work will conclude on January 17, 2021.
