July 2022 Update

Construction of the Cheakamus Crossing Phase 2 development continues.The Cheakamus West FSR will remain closed entirely until the end of August. Vehicle access beyond the construction site (to Loggers Lake) will reopen mid fall once the Mt. Fee Road extension is completed.

March 2, 2022 Update

Riverside Trail Temporary Closure

To proceed for the next phases of development in the Cheakamus Crossing Phase 2 lands, vegetation clearing and thinning work is scheduled to happen on Lot 2 and 3 starting next week. Due to high risk of flying debris from the tree felling equipment, the Riverside Trail will be closed between 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 8.

February 2, 2022 Update

Please note that the Cheakamus Crossing Phase 2 neighbourhood is an active construction site, and public access is restricted. Do not access the site by foot, bicycle, or vehicle until further notice.

The Cheakamus West Forest Service Road (FSR) is currently closed for installation of a new water main. The Riverside Trail and Ridge Trail will remain accessible, apart from periodic, temporary closures when necessary for construction activities.

No public access is permitted through the construction site. Vehicle access beyond the construction site (to Loggers Lake, etc) will reopen in mid to late summer once the the Mt. Fee Road extension is completed.

October 25, 2021 Update

Cheakamus West Forest Service Road Winter Closure

To facilitate construction of the Cheakamus Crossing Phase 2 development, the Cheakamus West Forest Service Road (FSR) will have the following upcoming incremental closures:

Starting November 1st: The FSR will be closed Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5pm
Starting November 15th: The FSR will be permanently closed above the House Rock parking lot until summer 2022

For public safety, please observe all onsite signage and refrain from entering closure areas.

September 3, 2021 Update

Upcoming Cheakamus Forest Service Road Closures

To facilitate material unloading, the Cheakamus West Forest Service Road will be closed on Tuesday Sept 7 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Starting October 4, the Cheakamus West Forest Service Road (FSR) will be closed to the public to complete the installation of the water main from Madeley Place for Building A and B in Phase 2 of Cheakamus Crossing development. Limited access to the House Rock Parking Lot will be open once civil works have concluded. The closure is anticipated to be in effect until June 1, 2022.

August 20, 2021 Update

Cheakamus West Forest Service Road will be closed temporarily on Tuesday, August 24 from 8 a.m. to noon to unload materials.

Signage will be installed in advance of the closure to notify road users. Emergency access to Loggers Lake will be available as a detour through the site. All trails will remain open.

June 25, 2021 Update

The Forest Service Road was opened to public vehicles on June 1st. It will remain open during construction until approximately October 1, when it will close again to complete the installation of a waterline. Extreme caution should be used on the Forest Service Road.

The Riverside Trail continues to remain open and the construction of the new Ridge Bypass Trail is completed and remains open. FireSmart Fuel thinning has been completed around the entire perimeter of the site.

Building A and Building B construction are well underway, with earthworks, drilling, blasting, rock hammering ongoing.

Impacts and service disruptions

On Monday, June 28 crews will be erecting a crane adjacent to the Forest Service Road. The road will be closed from 1:00p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to undertake this work.
Expect daily delays on the Forest Service Road between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. due to heavy equipment and construction vehicles. Pedestrians and cyclists should use the Riverside Trail. Vehicle traffic should drive slowly.
Construction works will be underway on Thursday July 1st and the crews will have the day off on Friday July 2nd in lieu of Canada Day.
BC Hydro will have equipment operating on the Forest Service Road for several hours during Friday July 2nd. The public should expect extended delays and closures. Please note, this is not a Whistler Development Corporation scheduled activity.

March 22, 2021 Update

The second phase of tree felling will commence on Wednesday, March 24. To ensure the safety of the public, Riverside Trail and the southern section of the Upper Ridge Trail will be closed on Wednesday, March 24 and possibly Thursday, March 25 to facilitate clearing adjacent to the trails. Trail closures will be in effect 8am to 6pm. Signage will be installed at all entry points indicating a temporary closure and the durations. Due to the danger of flying debris, it is extremely important that the trail users respect this temporary trail closure.

Additionally, crews will commence rock hammering on Tuesday, March 23 as part of the earthworks for the 'Parcel A' employee housing development. The hammering will take place 8am to 4:30pm. The rock hammering is anticipated to be completed by end of day Friday, March 26.

We recognize that this causes some disruption for residents and trail users. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we create future resident housing for our community.

February 18, 2021 Update

For increased site security, a site office has been temporarily established in addition to site fencing, gates, and signage.
Excavation for the first phase of development and the Mt Fee Rd extension are underway on site.
Ongoing drilling and blasting work are anticipated to require occasional, short (5-10 min) trail closures over the next three months.
Cheakamus West Forest Service Road remains closed to the public for realignment works.
Riverside and Upper Ridge Trails remain open, with short, intermittent closures throughout the day

January 27, 2021 Update

Crews have begun drilling and blasting on Parcel A for the Cheakamus Crossing employee housing development. This work is expected to conclude on February 12th.

Impacts

Daily construction schedule continues to be 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. Blasting will occur within these hours.
Crews are currently doing 2 blasts per day, and will ramp up to a maximum of 8 blasts per day when the rest of the equipment arrives on site.
All blasting will be done with blasting mats. These heavy rubber mats are placed over the rock to be blasted, which dampens the sound and ensures there is no projectile debris.
Signage has been posted at all adjacent trail entrances, and trails are swept and guards are posted to close the trail ensuring that no one is in the blast zone while blasting takes place.
Expect intermittent trail closures for up to 10 minutes, between 8am and 4:30pm.

January 5, 2021 Update

Crews will be mobilizing equipment to the Upper Lands starting January 6 to facilitate site clearing for the 'Parcel A' employee housing development and Mount Fee Road extension. This clearing work has been approved by development permit and advances the delivery of new rental employee housing that helps to meet the housing objectives of the RMOW. Work will include tree felling, brush removal and processing. This work will conclude on January 17, 2021.

Impacts & Service Disruptions

To ensure the safety of the public while undertaking tree felling, Cheakamus West Forest Service Road FSR (also known as Blacktusk FSR) will be closed from January 6 to January 17
Expect intermittent closures of up to two hours on Riverside Trail and Upper Ridge Trail between January 6 to January 17
Primary access to the Upper Lands for heavy equipment and machinery will be via Cheakamus West Forest Service Road. Limited heavy equipment and truck traffic will occur on Cloudburst Drive
