The RMOW Participates in Final Olympic Security Exercise
November 2, 2009 ... The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) will participate in Exercise Gold, the third and final Olympic security exercise, lead by the Public Safety Canada and BC Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General. The exercise will take place from November 2-6, 2009. As part of the 2010 Olympic Integrated Exercise Program, Exercise Gold serves to confirm that federal, provincial, regional, and municipal organizations are prepared to respond in a coordinated manner to any emergency that may occur during the 2010 Winter Games.

Whistler Mayor accompanies Olympic Flame from Athens, Greece to Victoria
October 30, 2009 ... After an incredible journey to Athens, Greece to be part of the official 2010 Olympic Flame Handover Ceremony this week, Whistler Mayor Ken Melamed was among other Canadian representatives bringing the Olympic Flame to Victoria today for a celebration to start the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay, presented by Coca-Cola and RBC, and supported by the Government of Canada.
 
Yesterday, the final torchbearer of the Greek portion of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay entered the Panathinaiko Stadium with the Olympic Flame and the Hellenic Olympic Committee handed over the Olympic Flame to John Furlong, Chief Executive Officer of the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC).

The Keys to the Whistler Olympic Village Official Turned over to VANOC

October 30, 2009...Today, the Whistler Olympic and Paralympic Athlete Village is one step closer to becoming home to 3,500 athletes and officials during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The Whistler 2020 Development Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) that managed the development, will be presenting the keys to the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC).

“Today, we’ve reached a major milestone in developing this incredible legacy for Whistler. Construction of the Village is complete, on-time and on-budget,” said Joe Redmond, president of the Whistler 2020 Development Corporation. “In just over 100 days the Village will house athletes and officials from all over the world before becoming the permanent home to more than 1,200 Whistler residents.”

Olympic Flame entrusted to Canada for 2010 Olympic Winter Games at ceremony in Greece
Flame to arrive on Canadian soil in less than 24 hours for start of longest domestic relay in Olympic history

October 29, 2009... Athens, Greece — As Greek children waved the blue and white striped flag of their country hand-in-hand with the red and white Maple Leaf, Greek officials entrusted the Olympic Flame to a Canadian delegation for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games this evening in a moving ceremony at Panathinaiko Stadium in downtown Athens.

Whistler Mayor among Canadians to retrieve Olympic Flame from Athens, Greece
October 23, 2009... Whistler will have the honour of being represented at the official 2010 Olympic Flame Handover Ceremony in Athens, Greece later this month. The Olympic Flame will be retrieved from Athens on Oct. 29, following the ceremonial lighting which took place in Olympia on Oct. 22 and a short relay around Greece. Whistler Mayor Ken Melamed will join other Canadian representatives going to Greece to pick up the Olympic Flame and bringing it back to Victoria on Oct. 30 for a celebration to start the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay, presented by Coca-Cola and RBC, and supported by the Government of Canada.

Attendees to receive vouchers for Games-time Whistler Medals Plaza tickets

October 20, 2009... November 4 marks 100 days to go until the February 12 opening ceremony for the 2010 Winter Games and the community is invited to come out and celebrate. On Wednesday, November 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. attendees can continue to build Whistler’s Olympic spirit with a variety of après activities at the Whistler Conference Centre, and other community events around Whistler recognizing this key date.

The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Transportation Team (OPTT), a working group within VANOC, released the second phase of its Games-time integrated transportation plan today providing residents and businesses with the most up-to-date information available on how to start planning now for their day-to-day travel needs during the 2010 Winter Games.
