The Resort Municipality of Whistler’s (RMOW) email and network systems remain temporarily offline due to a cyber security incident reported April 28. As a result, many municipal services continue to be unavailable or have limited access. In person service at Municipal Hall front desk continues to be temporarily suspended but all departments can be reached.
Safety and security of the RMOW’s systems is our highest priority to protect the information that we maintain for our employees and community members. Your patience is appreciated and we apologize for any inconvenience. Once our systems are back online, we will continue to work through applications and requests in the order that have been received.

In order to continue to provide customer service and answer questions, a call centre is available at 604-932-5535 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Information and contact details for departments and services is provided below as some phone lines and voicemails are currently unavailable. An estimate for when all services will return to normal is not yet known, but a limited number of critical systems are expected to start to return within two weeks.
Infrastructure such as water and sewer and emergency systems such as 911 and the Whistler Fire Department are secure and continue to operate as normal. The RMOW reminds the public that it does not contact individuals by phone or email to request personal information.
Please follow all Public Health Orders and recommendations:
- Masks are mandatory in all public indoor and retail spaces in B.C.
- Avoid all non-essential travel. This includes travel into and out of B.C. and between regions of the province.
- No social gatherings of any size with anyone other than your household or core bubble
- Stay at least 2 metres (6 feet) from others in public. Give others space to keep their distance too.

The Resort Municipality of Whistler announced on April 28 that there had been a cyber security incident. On April 27, the RMOW limited access to all of its servers after noticing suspicious activity.
There is an ongoing forensic investigation, and as that investigation progresses, we will know more about the nature of any information that may have been illegally accessed.

It is not known what specific data was impacted yet. Forensic cybersecurity investigators are investigating. We are asking people to be vigilant and monitor their personal information. The RMOW is currently putting measures in place in the event personal information is involved. The RMOW will inform individuals when we know if any personal information was involved.
The RMOW is taking this situation extremely seriously and are working with cyber security experts and the RCMP to confirm the nature of any threats. In the event personal information is impacted, the RMOW is currently putting measures in place to protect those people.
All citizens are asked to take extra care to monitor for any unusual activities and report them to the RCMP immediately. Please also be vigilant about phone calls or emails that appear to be originating from the RMOW, which does not ask for private personal information by phone or email.

An RMOW Incident Command team has been activated to focus on business continuity and restoration of services and we will communicate to the public through our website and social media channels when we expect those services will be restored.
