Resort Partners

Partnerships are at the heart of Whistler’s success as a resort community. The Resort Municipality of Whistler’s (RMOW) works in partnership with many organizations and community stakeholders, including the following:

  • Tourism Whistler
    Tourism Whistler is the non-profit member-based marketing and sales organization representing Whistler, operating the Whistler Conference Centre, the Whistler Golf Club, and the Whistler Visitor Centres, as well as 1-800-WHISTLER and whistler.com, Whistler’s official source for visitor bookings and information.
  • Whistler Chamber of Commerce
    The Whistler Chamber of Commerce is the leading business association in Whistler that works to create a vibrant and successful economy. Representing over 800 members, the Whistler Chamber of Commerce is the Voice of Business.
  • Whistler Blackcomb
    Whistler Blackcomb is North America’s premier four season mountain resort and is composed of Whistler and Blackcomb, two side-by-side mountains that combined offer over 8,000 acres of terrain.

  • Cheakamus Community Forest
    The RMOW, Squamish Nation, and Lil’wat Nation are partners in the Cheakamus Community Forest venture with Richmond Plywood acting as the operating contractor. Through the partnership the Cheakamus Community Forest manages 36,000 hectares surrounding Whistler.
     

Subsidiary Organizations

  • Whistler Housing Authority
    A wholly-owned subsidiary of the RMOW, the Whistler Housing Authority (WHA) manages the successful and innovative resident housing program throughout the community of Whistler.
     
  • Whistler Village Land Co. Ltd.
    Whistler Village Land Co. Ltd. is municipal development corporation that is responsible for the development and enhancement of the Crown land that is the Village. This structure gives the municipality ultimate control over the design and development of the Village: that of an owner.
     
  • Emerald Dream Conservation C. Ltd.
    Emerald Dream Conservation C. Ltd. is a wholly owned corporation of the RMOW and is the trustee of the Emerald Forest Trust; a trust formed pursuant to a Trust Settlement Agreement dated November 16, 1999.  The Emerald Trust owns the Emerald Forest lands.
     
  • 591003 BC Ltd.
    591003 BC Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Emerald Dreams Conservation Co. Ltd. that holds title to a portion of the Emerald Forest lands, which it leases to the RMOW.  591003 B.C. Ltd is the sole shareholder of Decigon Development Corp.
     
  • Decigon Development Corporation
    Decigon Development Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of 591003 B.C. Ltd. that holds title to a portion of the Emerald Forest lands, which it leases to the RMOW.
     
  • Emerald Trust
    Formed pursuant to a Trust Settlement Agreement dated November 16, 1999 as the sole member of 591003 B.C. Ltd. to administer the Emerald Forest.
     
  • Whistler 2020 Development Corporation (WDC)
    The RMOW created the Whistler 2020 Development Corporation (WDC) to facilitate the delivery of the Whistler Athlete Village for the 2010 Winter Games, now a residential neighbourhood called Cheakamus Crossing. RMOW is the sole shareholder of the corporation; however the corporation is a separate entity with no political connection to the local government. 
     
  • Whistler.com (Coast Mountain Reservations)
    Operating as Whistler.com, Coast Mountain Reservations is fully owned by the RMOW (51 per cent) and Tourism Whistler (49 per cent). The RMOW purchased half of the shares from the private owner in October 2004. The decision to move forward with Tourism Whistler purchasing the remaining shares was agreed to by Tourism Whistler’s Board of Directors and the RMOW’s mayor and council in February 2006. Tourism Whistler is responsible for the operations of Whistler.com.  
     
  • Tourdex.com Systems Inc
    Tourdex.com Systems Inc is a reservations and event booking system. Fifty-one per cent of its shares are owned by the RMOW and 49 per cent of its shares are owned by Tourism Whistler.
     
  • Cheakamus Leasing Corporation
    Cheakamus Leasing Corporation was incorporated on June 3, 2010 for the purpose of developing, acquiring, holding, managing, leasing and renting commercial lands and building space. The RMOW is currently the registered owner of six commercial strata lots located in the building known as “The Falls” located at 1040 Legacy Way (the “Commercial Strata Lots”) in the Cheakamus Crossing neighbourhood. The RMOW will remain the registered owner of the Commercial Strata Lots and will hold them in trust for Cheakamus Leasing Corporation, who will be the beneficial owner of the Commercial Strata Lots.
     

Funding Recipients

The RMOW also provides annual approved funding through the Fee for Service and Community Enrichment Program grants.

  • Whistler Arts Council
    The Whistler Arts Council (WAC) is a registered charity that advocates for the arts, local artists and the local community, as well as provides the community with access to the arts through resources and information. WAC also is a valuable resource to outside organizations and local artists and acts as a referral service, co-programmer and information network.
     
  • Whistler Chamber of Commerce
    The Whistler Chamber of Commerce is the leading business association in Whistler that works to create a vibrant and successful economy. Representing over 800 members, the Whistler Chamber of Commerce is the Voice of Business.
     
  • Whistler Museum and Archives 
    Whistler Museum and Archives works to collect, preserve, document and interpret the natural and human history of mountain life – with an emphasis on Whistler – and to provide a forum in which to present an innovative range of exhibitions and education programs to enrich the lives of residents and guests.
     
  • Whistler Animals Galore
    Whistler Animals Galore (WAG) is a non-profit and registered charity with the mission to provide a safe and nuturing environment to homeless and lost dogs and cats in the community and to be an advocate in finding their forever homes. 
  • Tourism Whistler
    Tourism Whistler receives annual funding from the RMOW from hotel tax revenues collected by the Province of British Columbia. The monies are used for resort marketing. Tourism Whistler also operates RMOW facilities the Whistler Conference Centre and the Whistler Golf Club as part of long-term lease agreements.
