Nestled in a quiet forest at the base of Rainbow Mountain, the Whistler Cemetery has provided a place for reflection, remembrance and connection since 1996.
The cemetery offers a variety of options to honour loved ones, including traditional burial lots, cremation burial lots, columbarium niches and a natural scattering garden.
The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) also offers a Tribute Plaque Program, which provides opportunities to honour loved ones through memorial benches, bike racks and other commemorative features located throughout the resort.

Location
The Whistler Cemetery is located at 5801 Alta Lake Road, approximately 100 metres south of the Rainbow Falls Trailhead and 800 metres north of Rainbow Park.

Cemetery visiting hours
The Whistler Cemetery is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. until dusk.
Internment and scattering season
The Cemetery is open for interment and scattering services from May 1 to October 30 each year, weather and ground conditions permitting. Due to winter conditions no services can be performed while the cemetery is closed.
Every interment or scattering service in the Whistler Cemetery is conducted under the supervision and guidance of RMOW staff.
Internment service hours
- Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and
- Subject to the availability of staff and payment of an overtime fee, on Saturdays, Sundays, or statutory holidays observed by the RMOW, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Please note services must begin no later than 2 p.m. to ensure they are completed by 3 p.m.

Planning ahead allows individuals and families to make important decisions in advance and choose a preferred resting place.
The Cemetery Administrator can assist with available lots, options and arrangements.

Burial plots
The Whistler Cemetery offers traditional burial lots in a peaceful natural setting. Burial lots may be reserved in advance and provide families with a permanent place to honour and remember their loved ones.
Each burial lot in the Whistler Cemetery is intended for the interment of the human remains of one individual.
Memorial markers for full burial lots are arranged and purchased by the family. All memorial markers must meet the cemetery’s size requirements and approval guidelines before installation.
Families are responsible for working directly with a memorial supplier to select and order a memorial marker that meets the cemetery’s requirements.
Approved marker dimensions
Adult burial memorial:
- One memorial marker, that shall measure 30.5 (12 in.) high x 51 cm (20 in.) wide x 7.62 cm (3 in.) thick in size; or
- Where two related persons are interred in adjacent lots, the installation of one memorial marker that measures 45 cm (18 in.) high x 75 cm (30 in.) wide x 7.62 cm (3 in.) thick and is installed over the midline of the adjacent lots.
Child and infant burial memorial:
- One memorial marker, that measures 25 cm (10 in.) high x 45.7 cm (18 in.) wide x 7.62 cm (3 in.) thick in size.

In-ground cremation lots
Single and double cremation burial lots are available for those who wish to have cremated remains placed in the ground. These lots provide a dedicated space for remembrance and may be marked with an approved memorial marker.
- Single cremation lots: Each single cremation lot in the Whistler Cemetery is intended for the internment of the human remains of one individual.
- Double cremation lots: Each double cremation lot in the Whistler Cemetery is intended for the internment of the human remains of two individuals.
Memorial markers for cremation burial lots are arranged and purchased by the family. All memorial markers must meet the cemetery’s size requirements and approval guidelines before installation.

Columbarium niches
Columbarium niches within the cremation wall offer an above-ground option for the placement of cremated remains. Each niche provides a secure and permanent location for urns and may be personalized with an approved memorial plaque.
Each Columbarium niche in the Whistler Cemetery is intended for the interment of the human remains of one individual.
Due to the size of the cremation burial lots urns must not exceed the following outside dimensions:
- Urn dimensions: 23 cm (9 in.) high x 23 cm (9 in.) wide x 23 cm (9 in.) deep.
Memorial plaques for columbarium niches are coordinated through the Resort Municipality of Whistler Cemetery Administrator. The Cemetery Administrator will provide information regarding memorial inscription requirements and approved text size and length.
Columbarium niche availability
The Scattering Garden
The Scattering Garden provides a peaceful, natural setting for the scattering of cremated remains. This environmentally friendly option allows ashes to be returned to nature within a designated area of the cemetery.
Please note that the placement of ashes in the Scattering Garden is permanent and cannot be reversed.
Memorial plaques for the Scattering Garden may be purchased through the Resort Municipality of Whistler Cemetery Administrator. The Cemetery Administrator will provide information regarding memorial inscription requirements and approved text size and length.
