Exciting news for Whistler residents and visitors! The rejuvenation project is nearly complete, and we are excited to announce that lake days will soon return to the menu at Rainbow Park.
This project has transformed Rainbow Park into a more accessible, green and enjoyable space for everyone. Here’s a detailed look at the improvements you can look forward to.
Enhanced Beach and Dock Areas
One of the standout features of the rejuvenation is the expanded and improved beach and docks. Visitors will now enjoy:
- A larger, more welcoming beach area with additional seating and picnic spots.
- Accessible pathways to ensure everyone can enjoy the beach and lake, including a paved path and lift to make the new third centre dock easily accessible.
New Amenities and Green Spaces
We’ve added a variety of amenities to enhance your park experience:
- More seating and picnic areas to accommodate individuals through to larger groups and provide space for gatherings.
- Tree planting around the lawn and in designated areas to offer shade and environmental support.
- A large shade structure to provide relief from the sun.
Improved Facilities
We’ve repositioned the beach volleyball area, making it more convenient and enjoyable as well as to make better use of the available park area. The main grass area has also been raised to improve drainage and irrigation, which will:
- Protect the park from increasing flooding events.
- Ensure the lawn remains usable even when water levels are high.
- Help disperse geese, making the space cleaner and more pleasant for visitors.
- Help to maintain views of the lake from the back of the lawn.
Ongoing Work
Reduced parking will be available until mid-July and while the main rejuvenation is complete, some work will continue through the fall:
- The food truck area.
- The railway crossing.
- The front of the washroom.
- The sanitary sewer connection.
Most importantly, there will be no further Valley Trail closures at Rainbow Park during this period. The project is on track and on budget and now moving to the third phase.
Shuttle Service, Bike Valet and Food Truck Schedule
Finally, we should mention lake days are not the only item on this menu.
Some delicious food options are also returning to Rainbow Park on Monday, July 15. Enjoy crepes, gelato, pizza, and whistler wieners from your favorite food trucks. View the full Park Eats schedule.
Help to reduce emissions by hiking, biking or using public transit to travel to Whistler parks. The free Whistler Park Shuttle service and secure bike valet will resume on Saturday, June 29.
This project will allow for more visitors in the space, while balancing the needs of the unique lakeside environment and the many different user groups.
It is a provincially funded project paid for with Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) program funds and did not drawn funds from local property taxes. Park design was lead by municipal parks planning staff and Connect Landscape Architecture.
