Schedule required final inspections

Once all work is complete, schedule final inspections for your permits. Final building and/or plumbing inspections are required to be approved before your permit file can be reviewed for closure.
When all required final inspections are approved, a Building or Plumbing Official will review the permit for closure.

Receiving an occupancy permit or file closure letter

For new construction, you need an occupancy permit before people can occupy any part of the building.
After the final inspections are approved, the file will be reviewed for any outstanding documentation. If there is any paperwork still required, Building Department staff will send a deficiency letter to the Owner or Authorized Agent, listing what is required to complete the file. Please make sure you submit all the documents in one complete package. Label the package with your permit number and project address.

When we’ve approved the required documentation, we can close the file and issue the occupancy permit or file closure letter.

Requesting your Highway Use, Clearing and Inspection Fee refund

If you paid a Highway Use, Clearing and Inspection Fee, you’ll need to submit a Highway Use, Clearing and Inspection Fee Refund form (PDF) within two years of when your building permit was issued.
Our Building Department staff will schedule a Roads Final inspection and Utilities Final inspection before the fee can be refunded. This inspection checks for any damage to municipal works during your project and checks the connections to the municipal services. You’ll receive your deposit by direct deposit after your inspection is approved.
