The Whistler Child Care Planning Project (PDF)was conducted in 2020 to better understand child care needs in our community for children aged 0 to 12 years.
The resulting report received by Council (PDF) addresses:
- child care spaces
- parents’ needs
- overall satisfaction with child care
- policy needs
- resources influencing child care provision
- population growth scenarios, with space creation targets for five and 10-year windows
The work revealed the greatest need is for after-school care of school-age children and full-time, facility-based group care for children 0 to 3 years of age. A preliminary action plan was provided to address these and other current gaps and those projected to develop in the near future.
Whistler parents and child-care providers provided survey input for the project. Three workshops were also held with child-care providers, key Whistler organizations and their representatives to understand the issues.
