Municipal Election Candidate Information Session

Are you thinking about running for Mayor, Council, or School Board Trustee in Whistler’s next municipal election on October 17, 2026? Join Resort Municipality of Whistler staff for an information session for people who are interested in learning more about what it means to run for and serve on Council or as a School Board Trustee.

The session will provide a general overview of Council roles and responsibilities, municipal jurisdiction, life as a Councillor, compensation and social obligations, budget and taxation, community involvement, how to become a candidate, nomination requirements, key deadlines, and campaign considerations, including campaign signs, fundraising rules, and the pre-campaign period. It will also highlight key information for people thinking of running for a position as a School Board Trustee.

This session is intended for potential candidates and community members who want to better understand the role of elected officials before deciding whether to run. There will be time for questions following the presentation.

This session will be offered in-person in the Community Room at Whistler Public Library, with an option to attend virtually through Microsoft Teams. Participants joining virtually may attend through the Teams app or in a web browser. Click here to join the Teams meeting. No registration required!
