Resident electors can now register to vote in British Columbia with Elections BC

Who can vote

Resident electors

To vote in a local municipal election, you must be:

  • 18 years of age or older on General Voting Day; 
  •  a Canadian citizen; 
  • a resident of B.C. for at least six months immediately before the day of registration; 
  • a resident of the Resort Municipality of Whistler; and
  • are not disqualified from voting by law.

Non-resident property electors

You are eligible to vote as a non-resident property elector if you are:

  • 18 years of age or older on General Voting Day; 
  • a Canadian citizen; 
  • a resident of B.C. for at least six months immediately before the day of registration; 
  • a registered owner of real property in the RMOW for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration (individuals who hold property in trust for a corporation or another trust are not eligible to vote); 
  • are not entitled to register as a resident elector; 
  • are not disqualified from voting by law; and
  • if there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector for that property.
