A residential fire yesterday at 8100 Alpine Way was contained by Whistler Fire Rescue Service and is under investigation. The fire affected four townhouse units and all 21 units in the building were evacuated. Displaced residents are being provided with emergency social services. No injuries have been reported.
Evacuated residents from all units can continue to register at the Emergency Social Services Reception Centre at Meadow Park Sports Centre. Those displaced are being provided hotel, food and other needs. The centre can also be contacted at 604-966-4792 and 604-966-4372.
Please stand by for an update on donating clothing. The Re-Use-It Centre has reached capacity and is no longer taking donations.
Hygiene items are being collected by the Whistler Food Bank. The Food Bank is open from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, but is closed for Remembrance Day on Wednesday, November 11. It is located at 1519 Spring Creek Drive.
An Alpine Fire Recovery & Donations Facebook page has also been created by community members to share information.
Financial donations can be made online to the Community Foundation of Whistler’s Emergency Fund or by cheque made out to the Community Foundation of Whistler, PO Box 1184, Whistler, B.C. V0N 1B0.
The District of Squamish has also generously offered to collect donations for the evacuated residents.
