The spray park and playground will remain open through summer 2025.
The original project timeline has been delayed. Park upgrades and replacement work will take place from spring to fall 2026.
Meadow Park is being redeveloped to replace the park’s infrastructure, better meet the needs of the many community members and visitors who use this park and also to adapt to climate change.
Overview
Meadow Park was constructed almost 40 years ago. It has become one of Whistler’s most popular public outdoor spaces. With increasing pressure from the number of visitors and environmental changes, it is essential to replace the park’s aging infrastructure to meet current programming requirements as well as to conserve water and provide greater resilience to rising temperatures.
The project will be phased: starting with the replacement of the popular spray park and playground. The current spray park is at the end of its useful lifespan and does not meet current Vancouver Coastal Health requirements or Whistler’s water conservation bylaw. Additionally, the playground and swings do not include accessible play elements.
The current funded phase of work also includes enhancing the picnic areas and pedestrian/cyclist circulation within the area, as well as enclosing the ball diamond closest to the sports centre to create a shared use off-leash area for dogs. The project also includes reconstructed irrigation and drainage systems, and both electrical and civil infrastructure improvements.
Other potential future park improvements are unfunded at this time but could include elements arising from the Meadow Park Master Plan (PDF) process as outlined below.
