Meadow Park Rejuvenation Project takes place April 7 to November 2026
- The playground and spray park in Meadow Park will be closed for replacement until November 30.
- The Camino Drive Valley Trail connection through the park will be closed as we are realigning it to make it safer.
- Conversion of the ball fields to green space and the addition of a new off-leash dog area.
- There will be short, temporary closures of this area while we complete this transition.
- The west ball field (closest to the washroom building) will be converted to an open green space with part of the current outfield to occupy the new playground. The east ball field (closest to MPSC) will be converted to an enclosed dog off-leash area.
- The Rainbow gravel parking lot will also be closed for the duration of this project, and there will be a closure area within the paved parking lot off Camino Drive to accommodate construction materials and equipment.
- The RMI program is run by the Province and is funded through the collection of local hotel tax
Meadow Park is being redeveloped to replace the park’s infrastructure to better meet the needs of the many community members and visitors who use this park and also to adapt to climate change.
Overview
Meadow Park was constructed almost 40 years ago. It has become one of Whistler’s most popular public outdoor spaces. With increasing pressure from the number of visitors and environmental changes, it is essential to replace the park’s aging infrastructure to meet current programming requirements as well as to conserve water and provide greater resilience to rising temperatures.
This project will be phased: starting with the replacement of the popular spray park and playground. The current spray park is at the end of its useful life and does not meet Vancouver Coastal Health’s current requirements or Whistler’s water conservation bylaw. Additionally, the playground and swings do not include enough accessible play elements.
The current funded phase of work also includes: enhancing the picnic areas and pedestrian/cyclist circulation within the area. It will also transition the west ball field to green space and east ball field (closest to Meadow Park Sports Centre) to a new dog off-leash area. The irrigation and drainage systems will be reconstructed, including the conversion to use non-potable water, and the electrical and civil infrastructure improved.
Other potential future park improvements are unfunded at this time but could include elements arising from the Meadow Park Master Plan (PDF) process as outlined below.
Thank you to the Province of B.C. for fully funding this project through the Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI). RMI is from hotel tax revenue — not local property taxes — and is invested to support tourism.
Project timeline
Phase 1: Meadow Park Master Plan is complete
This included a park master plan, engaging with the public and updating Whistler Council.
Thank you for submitting feedback through the 2019 Outside Voice Parks Master Plan and on this project in 2022 and 2023.
Phase 2 – Splash park, playground and ball field in April to November 2026
Detailed design is complete.
The design includes the park playground and splash park, adjacent landscape, irrigation, dog off-leash area, Valley Trail and pathways. It also includes electrical and civil upgrades.

Construction will take place spring to fall 2026.
This includes:
- Removal and/or recycling/storage of existing infrastructure
- Installation of electrical and civil infrastructure
- Installation of dog off-leash area fencing
- Installation of splash park and playground
- Installation of Valley Trail and pathways, picnic areas, landscape and irrigation
Potential Future Phase Riverfront and second ball field
This design is still conceptual and we’ll reach out to the community for input before moving ahead with any procurement and construction.
