Status 

Design for this project was completed in 2025, and procurement took place in late 2025. The construction contract was awarded by Council on January 20, 2026. Construction is scheduled to begin in May 2026 and be completed by September 30, 2026. 

Overview 

The Resort Municipality of Whistler is upgrading the Millar’s Pond Sanitary Lift Station, which serves 21 homes in the neighborhood. The station has reached the end of its service life and has experienced electrical failures in the past, creating a risk of sewer backups. 

This project will replace the station’s pumps, electrical systems, controls, and piping to improve reliability and protect nearby homes and the environment. 

A temporary bypass system will be used during construction to keep wastewater flowing and ensure uninterrupted service for residents. 

What’s happening 

• Sewer station bypass will be set up within the property limits and fenced off. 

• Replacement of the existing kiosk, electrical, mechanical components and new pumps and associated piping.    

Benefits 

Upgrading and maintaining these sanitary lift stations is essential to ensure the wastewater system continues to operate safely and reliably. The Millars Pond Sanitary Lift Station has experienced electrical failures in the past, which caused unplanned outages and temporarily took the station out of service. When this happens, there is a risk of sewer backups that could affect nearby homes and the surrounding environment. 

These improvements will help prevent those types of failures. By modernizing critical electrical and mechanical components, the project reduces the chance of outages, lowers the need for emergency response, and helps protect public health and the environment. It also improves the overall efficiency and long-termterm resilience of the wastewater collection system.

Construction impacts 

• Expect equipment noise, odor and increased numbers of construction vehicles on site. 

• Minor vehicle and pedestrian delays, traffic control personnel will be on site. Please obey all signs and directions from the traffic controllers.

• May to September 2026: Construction
