Latest Status
The assessment and design phases were finalized by R.F. Binnie and Associates Ltd. in 2020 and 2021. The procurement phase happened in the late fall 2024 and the invitation to tender was posted in January to February of 2025. The contract was approved by Council and awarded for construction at the end of February 2025. Currently, the project is set for construction to start in May and be completion by October 2025.
Overview
The aim of this project is to conduct preventative maintenance and replace corroded valves and fittings along the water and sewer mains. By replacing these components, we aim to prolong the lifespan of the existing infrastructure and reduce the need for future unplanned repairs.
Water Main and repair location
Spruce Grove Way, West side of Fitzsimmons bridge to Highway 99 and Mons Road from Spruce Grove Way to Sabre Rentals
Sewer Main repair location
On Blackcomb Way, from Montebello entrance through the Nancy Green Drive intersection and ending approximately 150 Meters down the Valley trail on the west side of Fitzsimmons creek.
Construction Impact
Road closures, single lane alternating traffic and bus route interruptions for:
- Reduced traffic lanes on Blackcomb way from Nancy Greene to Setebello Drive.
- North Bound Lane closed on Blackcomb Way between Settebello Dr. and Nancy Green Dr.
- Tentatively scheduled June 24 to July 11
- Northbound Lane on Blackcomb Way From Lorimer Rd. To Settebello Dr. open to Local traffic only
- Detour Via Lorimer Rd. and Hwy 99 to Nancey Green Dr.
- Transit Bus and school bus route will be affected.
- Nancy Green Dr. South side of Fitzsimmons Walk Valley trail to Fitzsimmons North / South Intersection.
- Tentatively scheduled June 18 to June 23.
- Detours into White Gold via Hwy 99 to Spruce Grove Way.
- Transit Bus and school bus route will be affected
- Fitzsimmons Walk Valley Trail section
- Temporary trail diversions around construction points repair
- There will be single alternating traffic as well throughout the project at the Intersection of Nancey Green and Blackcomb way Intersection
- Construction activities will also result in equipment noise and an increase in the number of construction vehicles.
- To ensure safety and smooth traffic flow, traffic control personnel will be present on-site. We kindly ask everyone to follow their instructions and adhere to all construction signs.
During construction, water service interruptions are expected. Notices will be provided to affected properties 72 hours prior to any shutdowns. However, there will be no sewer service interruptions during the repairs.
